www.jj-electronic.com. During the evacuation process, the metal structure of the tube inside the bulb has to be heated to drive out the air molecules contained in the porous metal. Finally, the getter ring has to be "fired", which is also done by induction heating. The chemical reaction absorbs the remaining air molecules that the vacuum pump can no longer extract, creating the characteristic "mirror" on the tube bulb.
